Dr. Kiara Butler

Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, Kiara fearlessly embraces her identity as a Black, same-gender-loving woman from the Deep South. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the prestigious Tougaloo College, followed by Masters and Doctorate degrees from Belhaven University and Johnson & Wales University, respectively.

Dr. Kiara Butler, author of Terms & Conditions: The Fine Print to an Anti-Racist Society, is a renowned speaker, advocate, and the CEO and Founder of Unscripted Consult. Her dedication to empowering individuals and organizations in driving anti-racism and DEI initiatives has solidified her position as a leading force in addressing instances of racism and discrimination. Notably, she has been recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree.

Dr. Kiara Butler's commitment to anti-racism, unwavering advocacy, and dedication to empowering individuals and organizations have earned her recognition and opportunities such as speaking at TEDxProvidence and being featured in prominent media outlets including PBS, EdSurge, The Boston Globe, and The Providence Journal.

Through Unscripted Consult, Dr. Butler aims to continue to create a community of leaders devoted to implementing anti-racism and DEI initiatives. Drawing from her expertise in building Diversity Talks, she shares invaluable insights with others, enabling them to become effective anti-racism trainers and advocates. By amplifying her knowledge and experiences, she strives to foster a collective effort in creating a more anti-racist society.

In 2017, Dr. Butler founded Diversity Talks, a non-profit organization focused on training high school students to facilitate anti-racism professional development for teachers and administrators. Additionally, her personal experiences and studies led her to develop the groundbreaking PERM Framework—a methodology for measuring cultural competency.

Driven by her passion and experience, in 2022, she expanded her impact by establishing Unscripted Consult, an organization that equips trainers with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to lead effective anti-racism and DEI initiatives within their respective organizations.
